- Police Arrest Suspect Over Aso Rock Director’s Murder
With series of investigations concerning the murder of Aso Rock’s director, the Police in Abuja, have arrested a suspect over the death of an assisant director attached to the State House in Abuja, Laetitia Dagan.
According to a statement by Federal Capital Territory Command Spokesperson, Anjuguri Menzah, the arrest followed a preliminary probe by the Criminal investigation department of the force.
The police added that the suspect whose identity was not revealed conspired with others, who are still very large, to carry out the crime.
It would be recalled that the 47-year old Dagan was killed by gunmen on monday evening in her department in the Galadimawa District of Abuja.
- 63 Placed under Surveillance in Lagos Over Lassa Fever
With the discovery of Lassa Fever case yesterday in Lagos, the Lagos State Government has placed 63 people under surveillance over fears that they may have been infected by a Lassa Fever patient.
The Commissioner of Health in the State, Prof Akin Abayomi, disclosed this yesterday in a statement issued by the Director of public affairs, Ministry of Health, Tunbosun Ogunbamyo.
‘’We have one case of Lassa in Lagos, the patient is in isolation and receiving adequate care, 63 people that may have been in contact with the patient and who may have been infected by process of being in contact with him have been identified and are being monitored.
‘’If they develop any of the symptoms, we will pick them up early, test and isolate them so that we break the circle of transmission,’’ he said.
- Nigerians Laments as Anthony Joshua gets Special Treat for National ID
The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) drew the attention of Nigerians after it published photo of British-Nigerian boxer, Anthony Joshua, registering for the National Identity Card.
‘’Anthony Joshua enrolls for National Identity number and issued his NIN slip,’’
NIMC tweeted yesterday.
Nigerians who are yet to get their permanent National ID Card seemed angry and tweeted:
‘‘I’ve enrolled for this National ID Card since 2014, and I’m yet to be issued a permanent ID Card. All I have to show for it is the slip. Olamide Obe said in a tweet.’’
‘’But Anthony Joshua will most definitely get issued a permanent ID Card before me. Nigeria is for the highest bidder.’’
‘’Another Nigerian, Alelanfe who called out NIMC on his tweet said, ‘‘Anthony Joshua got his slip the same day!! But you people will tell me to come back in two weeks.’’
- Senate Moves to Establish Commission against illegal use of Guns
The Senate has considered a bill seeking to establish the National Commission against the proliferation of small arms and light weapons.
The sponsor of the bill, Senator Smart Adeyemi (APC - Kogi West), noted during plenary yesterday that the function of the commission when establish will include; identifying sources and routes of small arms and ammunitions, identifying those involved in the illicit trade, and providing harmonization of intelligence and information collection.
‘’The proliferation of these weapons affect the intensity and duration of violence and encourages militancy rather than a peaceful resolution of unsettled differences,’’ Adeyemi said.
- Court Orders Release of Dasuki’s Passport for Renewal
A Federal Capital Territory (FCT) high Court in Maitama, has ordered the release of the passport belonging to former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, for renewal.
Report says, the order was given after Dasuki’s Lawyer. Ahmed Raji, notified Justice Hussein Baba Yusuf, that the passport had expired since the court took its custody
