For that reason, we consider Nigeria as a brother country to help us in organizing the election in Chad. I want to make it clear that none of the countries have come to help Chad to conduct its elections. We have received some promises from the European Union but none has come. INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu said the commission had taken note of the request especially with regards to the long overdue parliamentary election. According to the story shared by instablog:

The Ogun State Police Command have three suspects who allegedly murdered one Ahmed Obisanwo, 400-level student of Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago-Iwoye.

The Command also recovered guns from the suspects who claimed to be members of local community Vigilante group.

The Commissioner of Police, Bashir Makama, said the three suspects Idowu Ayodele, 53, Segun Ogunsanwo, 53, and Akeem Salisu, 55 would be charged with murder.

Makama said the suspects invaded a hotel in Ijebu-Igbo, on August 8, dispossessing people of their valuables during the attack. The suspects also seized two young men while the robbery lasted.

Makama said: “These suspects went into a hotel and told everyone to lie down, dispossessing them of their valuables. They seized two people and didn’t return them. After a while, one of them came back and said he had escaped. .

When we asked him about the second person he was abducted with, he said, he was dead. On further interrogation, they said the other person that was taken had been killed. .

They said he had been thrown into a river. We asked them to identify the river so we can go there and conduct a search and recover his remains.”

President Buhari has attributed the partial closure of Nigeria’s border with Benin

Republic to the massive smuggling activities, especially of rice.

The Nigerian leader gave the reason during the seventh Tokyo International Conference for African Development (TICAD7), in Yokohama, Japan on Wednesday.

President Buhari, who expressed great concern over the smuggling of rice, said it threatened the self-sufficiency already attained due to his administration’s agricultural policies.

According to him,

“Now that our people in the rural areas are going back to their farms, and the country has saved huge sums of money which would otherwise have been expended on importing rice using our scarce foreign reserves, we cannot allow smuggling of the product at such alarming proportions to continue.”

The Nigerian President said the limited closure of the country’s western border was to allow Nigeria’s security forces develop a strategy on how to stem the dangerous trend and its wider ramifications.

Responding to the concerns raised by President Talon on the magnitude of suffering caused by the closure, President Buhari said he had taken note and would reconsider reopening in the not too distant future.

He, however, disclosed that a meeting with his counterparts from Benin and Niger Republics would soon be called to determine strict and comprehensive measures to curtail the level of smuggling across their borders.

[News] Woman beats up 10-year-old boy, locks him in dog cage

Police in Nigeria’s largest city, Lagos, have arrested a woman who was recently seen in a recorded video flogging and locking a 10-year-old boy in a kennel with dogs.

In the said video which went viral on social media this month, the woman, who has been identified as 24-year-old Onyinye, is seen beating the child with a belt before dragging him into the kennel. She then locks the kennel and walks away.

Her actions were secretly filmed by a neighbour and after the video went viral, many social media users who were outraged called on the police to take action.

On Thursday, a police spokesperson, Dolapo Badmos, said the suspect had been arrested.

“Last week, we got the report of a lady who beat up a lad and threw him into a dungeon of dogs.

“The domestic violence response team of the Lagos State Police Command was activated. The team went into action and the lady was arrested.

“The suspect is in custody and will be charged to court. The boy who happens to be an orphan has been rescued and kept in a shelter provided by the Lagos State Government,” Badmos wrote on her Instagram page.

The spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, Bala Elkana, gave further details in a statement cited by Punch.

He said Onyinye, who lives in Aguda, Surulere in Lagos, claimed after her arrest that the child, who happens to be an orphan, had stolen an item in the house.

“On August 14, 2019, a team of detectives from the Gender Unit, Command’s Headquarters Ikeja, arrested Onyinye for assault and child abuse. This followed a viral video on the social media showing the suspect torturing one Chibike of same address.

“The video also showed the suspect locking the boy up in a kennel, sharing space with dogs. The video was widely condemned by well-meaning Nigerians.

“The Commissioner of Police Lagos State, CP Zubairu Muazu, ordered the Gender Unit of the command to identify the woman in the video, rescue the child and make the suspect face the full weight of the law.

“The Domestic and Sexual Response Team, Alausa, Ikeja, also added its voice to the call for investigation with a petition addressed to the Commissioner of Police to that effect.

“The Gender Unit traced the suspect to a liquor store in Surulere and her residence at Aguda. The boy was rescued and taken to a secure shelter. The suspect admitted that she was the one in the viral video flogging the child with belt, but she denied locking the survivor in a cage with dogs. That she only locked him in an empty dog kennel where bags are kept.

“She claimed to have locked up the boy for a few hours before bringing him out. She alleged that the boy took a hot drink in their refrigerator and was misbehaving. That the suspect smashed the side mirror of her Toyota Camry with stone which made her detain him in the kennel.

“Investigation revealed that the survivor lost his parents and was brought to Lagos in 2012 from Anambra State by the mother of the suspect along with his two siblings. The suspect and the survivor are cousins.

“The suspect’s mother is the elder sister of the survivor’s father. The suspect will be charged to court.”

The police have, so far, applauded the resident who recorded the video and reported the incident for further actions to be taken.

About a week ago, the SUG President released a memo both on his Whatsapp status and other Social media

platforms, that he has been able to shift school resumption date from the management rumoured September 7th and 14th 2019, to October 7th and 14th 2019.

However, report reaching us today from a reliable source says an authority from the management called the President and demanded he writes a memo debunking his earlier post as the management hasn't changed ground. The authority added that school resumes whenever the management wants not when SUG want.

Basically, the SUG President has met with the Director of Academic Planning and DSA who actually accept his appeal of the 7th October, but VC now objected saying no one should interrupt with the flow of the University's academic activities.

So the known dates for resumption in 2019/2020 academic session is 7th September for 100 & 400L while it's 14th for 200 & 300L.

Reno Omokri, former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, has reacted to the list of 80 Nigerians arrested by the United States, US, government for fraud-related crimes.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation, FBI, in a press statement released in Los Angeles, California on Thursday by US attorney Nick Hanna, announced arrest of “many Nigerians”, in an ongoing investigation related to fraud cases.Sing49ja had reported that FBI named Valentine Iro, 31, and Chukwudi Christogunus Igbokwe, 38, both Nigerian citizens as lead suspects, adding that the duo allegedly coordinated with others to launder the funds from victims.

The arrest of ‘80 Nigerians’ has stirred diverse reactions from Nigerians on social media even as some described the list of Nigerians as partial and tribalistic.

Omokri faulted the decision to link those arrested to people of the South East.

In a series of tweets, the former presidential aide said it was wrong to cast aspersions on Igbo people over the arrest.

Omokri tweeted: “Before you wrongly blame all Igbos for the FBI action, note that we have a Governor caught on camera stuffing bribes in his pocket. he was reelected, after the corruption hating General @MBuhari lifted his hands as his candidate. We are all guilty!

“It is wrong to cast aspersions on Igbos due to the names on the FBI’s suspects list. I don’t condone what they are alleged to have done. But Sani Abacha is the world’s biggest ever thief, yet a stadium is named after him in Kano. We’re all guilty

It is only you in Nigeria who see things through the prism of Igbo, Yoruba, Hausa & Fulani. outsiders, don’t see that. They just see Nigeria. Your value is irrevocably linked to Nigeria’s value. So keep laughing that most of the FBI names were Igbo.”

[News] FBI List: NIDCOM Warns Against Stereotyping All Nigerians

The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), has warned against the stereotyping of all Nigerians, following the release of a list by the US authorities which indicted 80 persons, mostly Nigerians for various crimes including massive email fraud and money laundering.

According to a statement by the Chief Executive of the Commission, Mrs Dabiri-Erewa, the actions of a few Nigerians involved in criminal activities is not a representation of the majority.

It also said that an accusation does not necessarily mean guilt and that it expects that all the suspects will be given fair and speedy trial.

The statement, however, noted that those accused should turn themselves in to the American authorities to clear their names.

A failure to do so according to the commission could result in the Nigerian government extraditing them if relevant international treaties between both governments are invoked.
