4 Foreign Countries That Speaks Igbo Language

It will interest you to know that it is not only Nigerians that speak Igbo, Yoruba and even Hausa… the speakers of these languages are not even related to any Nigerians in other countries.
Today, over 40 million people speaks this language and it has managed to spread oversees years ago as enslaved Igbo people were traded throughout various slave colonies. These colonies were in the United States, Cuba, The Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Belize, Barbados, and the Bahamas.

I’m going to show you countries that speak Igbo as their main language.
1. Equatorial Guinea: Igbo is spoken in Equatorial Guinea where it is regarded as a minority language.
2. Caribbean Island: Caribbean indigenes speak Igbo and Yoruba languages fluently, even though they are not related to any Nigerians. A foremost entertainer and music maestro, Tar Ukoh, says many people in the area speak Igbo and Yoruba of the 13th century. Till now he says, the Yorubas still play and enjoy their traditional Yoruba songs, while the Igbos feature their nmanwu, agaba and ekpe masquerades.
From those masquerades, they fashioned out a brand of music they call Wawanco. Their ancestors too were the exponents of the popular Calypso music which is an adulteration of Ka anyi soo nmanwu (let’s join the masquerade troupe).
3. Cameroon: Cameroon also speaks Igbo and it is recorded that about 110,000 people of Cameroon speaks Igbo as their main language according to Evangeliser’s statistics.
4. Jamaicans: In Jamaica the Igbo were often referred to as Eboe or Ibo… Igbo people were taken in relatively high numbers to Jamaica as slaves, so it's no surprise that there's some Igbo language in the Jamaican Patois language.
In Jamaica, “red eboe” is used to describe people with light skin tones with African features. They also celebrate what is called “jonkonu Yam festival” popularly know among Nigerian Igbos as “New Yam Festival”.
Jonkonnu is a masquerade festival held in Jamaica which is attributed to the Njoku Ji or “yam-spirit cult”, Okonko and Ekpe of the Igbo.
Other Igbo speaking countries are: The Dominican Republic, Cuba, Belize, Barbados, and the Bahamas.
Igbo people are great people and should be celebrated always

News: Peace Mass Transit Boss Denies Buying Enugu Market

The chief executive of Peace Mass Transit Limited, Samuel Maduka Onyishi, Monday, debunked reports that he bought Akwatta section of Ogbete Main Market in Enugu.

In an interview with Sing49ja, Onyishi said, “The news is fake, malicious, and unfounded. My attention was drawn to it not quite long. I wonder what I’ll do with Akwatta market! The public should
ignore the rumours.”

On whether he would take any legal action,
Onyishi responded that, “No need at all; I am used to these things. Some interests would want to smear my name in land matters. One wonders their objects.”

The chairman of Enugu North Local Government Area of Enugu State, Emeka Onunze, last week, also refuted the rumours that the market was sold to the transport mogul, describing it as ‘a failed calculated attempt to undermine our genuine efforts to upgrade the environmental
condition of the market’.

According to Onunze, “We temporarily relocated the traders of Akwatta market to Garki market, Enugu, to enable the council to rebuild the section of the Ogbete Main Market to standards. The government did not sell Akwatta market to Peace Mass Transit. Our council, in view of the COVID-19 pandemic and to enthrone basic
standard hygiene in the market and its environs, on March 24, 2020, shut down the Tomato section of Akwatta in Ogbete Main Market, before the general closure of the entire market

Similarly, the chairman of Ogbete Main Market Traders’ Association, John Okechukwu Eze, told our correspondent that, “It is not true that Akwatta section of the market was ceded to Peace Mass. The market was closed to curtail the spread of coronavirus in the state. Akwatta section remains intact. The purported sale is a handiwork of mischief-makers. A global condom shortage is looming as the coronavirus pandemic disrupts production and supply chains of the world’s top maker of contraceptives.

Most countries are on lockdown as over half of humanity has been confined to their homes as the highly contagious virus ravages the world.

Some businesses deemed non-essential have also been closed down.

Malaysia, one of the world’s top rubber producers and a major source of condoms in March imposed a nationwide lockdown.

Malaysian contraceptive giant is expected to produce 200 million fewer condoms than usual with the restrictions on its operations

Chief executive, karex, Goh Miah Kiat has warned that supplies of contraceptives will be hit hard with disruption in supply and transport difficulties.

He expressed worries about the supplies of condoms to developing countries.

Kiat warned that with other producers around the world likely facing disruption in getting condoms to market due to transport problems, supplies of contraceptives will be hit hard.

“The world will definitely see a condom shortage.

“It’s challenging, but we are trying our best right now to do whatever we can. It is definitely a major concern because condoms are an essential medical device.

“While we are fighting the COVID-19 pandemic, there are also other serious issues that we need to look at,” he added
